Five Other-worldly Classics to Read to Children

Some of our best-loved children’s books and best sellers take readers to a new and surprising world far different from our normal everyday environment. That is what makes the reading so much fun! If you haven’t read these books to your children, now is the time to begin.  The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis takes you to Narnia where four children meet all sorts of characters and learn to know Aslan, the most remarkable character of all. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie takes you to Neverland where children never grow up and Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is a topsy-turvy world. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien will take you to the sweet land of The Shire where meals come regularly, including elevenses. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum takes place in a land where all sorts of remarkable events take place as Dorothy makes her way to the city to meet Oz himself. Really, you need to visit each of these alternative worlds with your children and enjoy the richness and beauty of each one.
