We grandparents love to give good gifts to our grandkids. And if you’re anticipating the birth of your first grandchild, I know you’re just counting the minutes until you can shower that child with presents.
While some gifts may be labeled for either boys or girls, we all know that our sweet little girl may want to be a pirate when she grows up and our boys are just fine with cooking and baking. So, take the gender designations with a grain of salt and buy the beautiful toys you imagine your grandchild loving.
For Boys 0-3:
Magnetic Building Blocks from Apluses
This 54-piece pre-school educational construction kit for toddlers will keep little hands and minds busy for hours. These magnetic blocks come in nine bright colors and the kit includes a storage bag and an idea book. Grandma and Grandpa can spend lots of time interacting with baby as he builds. The blocks help develop eye-hand coordination, logical thinking skills and provide an introduction to color names.
Radio Flyer’s Play and Fold Away Pirate Ship
Ahoy Matey! With a minimum of assembly, this compact climbing toy will provide hours of fun and exploration. It is built to hold fifty pounds and includes a slide, a telescope and a hideaway space inside. It is a sturdy and safe place to climb, crawl, hide and slide. It folds up for easy storage and can be used both indoors and out.
V Tech’s Smart Wheels Fire Station
Your grandson will save the day with this interactive play fire station. Made for kids twelve months and up, this colorful, sturdy toy allows the operator to slide figures down the fire pole, lift the elevator, spin the hose, ring the bell and more. He can also place the firetruck in various positions to elicit phrases, sounds and melodies.
For the Playroom or Bedroom
Pottery Barn’s Musical Horse Nursery Rocker
When parents are setting up a nursery, they want everything to be perfect. The Musical Horse Nursery Rocker adds a touch of class to baby’s room and offers hours of fun for a growing baby and then toddler. This plush rocking horse can be personalized with a name or monogram and is just the thing to welcome baby into the home. It is made of polyester and faux suede and both the hand bars and rockers are made of solid wood. The horse rocks and gallops with the help of AA batteries. And for some added fun the horse neighs. ( May only be for my followers in the States)
Melissa and Doug’s Turtle Ball Pit
Melissa and Doug have done it again. They’ve designed a unique multi-textured toy for young children. The zippered turtle is large enough for your grandchild to climb on or sit inside. It comes with sixty balls in six colors. It has a skid-proof bottom for safety. Children will enjoy grasping and throwing the balls in addition to sitting amongst them inside the turtle. Wonderful for early social, cognitive and physical development as the child manipulates the rattles, tags, rings and buttons.
One of my favourite websites for gifts for little ones is www.fromthetoothfairy.com
They have created a collection which includes a book about losing a tooth, a keepsake as an elegant store box and a pouch which holds the lost tooth until the fairy comes to exchange it for something shiny!
The perfect gift for a birthday or baby shower.
