Walking is always the best way to explore a new destination, whether it be the seaside promenade in Nice, the Louvre or one of Dubai’s incredible shopping centres. You can spend hours on end on your feet so it’s important that if you’re off on a summer holiday, you pack a pair of shoes that keep you comfortable and look the part.

AskGranny has looked at a selection of the best holiday walking shoes for women that maximize comfort without compromising on style. Here’s three of the best:

1. Skechers GOwalk range

Skechers’ ultra-lightweight and incredibly popular GOwalk trainer is a delightful, high quality and very affordable walking shoe.

Built for comfort, GOwalks are made with a breathable mesh fabric upper and Skechers’ patented 5GEN midsole as well as a Goga Max insole which provides brilliant responsive cushioning.

The style of the shoe and the colours available mean it can work well with shorts and a t-shirt during the day as well as skirts, blouses and casual trousers in the evening.

What to look for in a walking shoe

  • Sole:  The sole of your shoe should provide grip in both wet and dry conditions
  • Mid-sole:  The mid-sole sits on top of the sole, and you should make sure that it provides adequate cushioning that helps absorb shock and improves comfort while you walk.
  • Waterproof/breathable materials:  Walking shoes with a waterproof lining can keep your feet dry in wet conditions however it can make them less breathable – if you’re heading off for a summer holiday then prioritise breathability over waterproofing.
  • Uppers:  The upper material on your shoes needs to be lightweight yet protective.
  • Weight:  Make sure they’re lightweight, this means they won’t weigh you down as much and be more comfortable.
