Want to stay young? Maintain healthy, glowing skin.

In the battle to fight aging, taking care of our skin is a top priority. In many cases a skincare regimen has not been put into place until we begin to notice those crow’s feet around the eyes and the puckers around the mouth.

While nothing stops the aging process completely, there are many ways to promote a vibrant, healthy skin with just a few preventive measures. Here are Ask Granny’s  ten tips for keeping your skin as healthy and beautiful as possible.

Use a hydrating body wash when you bathe. Avoid products with alcohol in them and moisturize often after bathing.

Use sunscreen on face and all exposed parts of the body daily. Sun damage is aging and increases the possibility of skin cancers.

Wash your face each evening using a mild soap and a product to remove makeup. Leaving makeup on the skin is a major cause of dull, unattractive skin.

Avoid exposure to the sun during the peak hours of 10 to 4 daily. Wear a sunhat and sunscreen when outdoors during those hours.

Get plenty of sleep. Bags under the eyes are a sure sign of a tired body.

Drink lots of water to hydrate the entire body. Hydration also reduces the incidence of clogged pores.

Don’t smoke and manage alcohol intake. Smoking reduces the skin’s natural elasticity by reducing collagen in the body.

Exfoliate the skin regularly and then replace moisture with a moisturizing cream.

If your skin is sensitive be sure to avoid products with fragrances. Lotions containing vitamin B3 may help protect sensitive skin.

Shave the skin carefully. Shave with the direction of hair growth and clean carefully afterward to get rid of dead skin cells. Moisturize after shaving.

So while there are no magic creams and lotions to keep us young forever, there are good, healthy routines that will keep our skin looking its best for many years to come.
