Kids love to cook. They enjoy the time with Grandma or Grandpa doing “big kid things.” Cooking with children is a great pastime during the holidays.
Here are three no-bake recipes for kids guaranteed to give you some quality time in the kitchen together and produce an edible treat.
Hay Stacks
Ingredients
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup salted nuts
4 cups chow mein noodles
Preparation
Melt chips and peanut butter in the microwave. Stir in nuts and noodles. Drop by forkfuls onto waxed paper. Cool and enjoy.
Candy Bar Snack
Ingredients
4 cups oat cereal
1 cup golden raisins
6 oz salted peanuts
¼ cup butter
6 oz chocolate chips
Preparation
Mix cereal, nuts and raisins. Melt butter in the microwave and pour over mixture. When mixed add the chocolate chips. Stir and serve in a bowl to be eaten by handfuls.
Honey Fruit Nuggets
Ingredients
¼ cup each: dried pitted prunes, dried pitted dates, dried apricots, dried figs.
1/3 cup wheat flake cereal, crushed
¼ cup honey
½ square unsweetened chocolate, melted
Non-stick cooking spray
Coconut or chopped nuts
Preparation
Place dried fruit in hot water for five minutes. Drain. Place fruit in a blender with cereal mix and blend. Add honey and chocolate. Spray hands and form one inch balls. Roll in coconut or chopped nuts. Chill and enjoy.
