July is a great month to eat. It is simultaneously known as National Baked Bean Month, National Hot Dog Month and National Ice Cream Month. And who doesn’t enjoy a mouth-watering barbecue in July when the sun shines bright?
In random historical dates in July we see that the first sunglasses were invented in China on July 1, 1200.
Henry David Thoreau moved to his retreat on Walden Pond on July 4th, 1845.
On July 9th, 1926 Chiang Kai-shek was appointed National Revolutionary Supreme Commander.
On July 17th, 1994 a four year old French boy was named the Buddhist Lama Tulkou Kalou Rinpoche.
On July 22nd, 1969 Astronaut Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon.
On July 28, 1750 Johann Sebastian Bach died.
In today’s modern world here are a few special days to celebrate in the month of July:
1st Canada Day Celebrates the Constitution Act of 1867 in which three colonies united to form Canada within the British Empire.
4th American Independence Day. On July 4, 1776 the United States celebrated its independence from England.
14 th Bastille Day. Celebrates the French Revolution that occurred in 1789 when the Bastille was stormed. The day is honored with parades and firework displays in France.
25th St. James Day in Spain. James was the son of Zebedee and one of Jesus’ disciples. His day is celebrated with church services, art exhibits and theater productions.
Some silly days in July include I Forgot Day on the 2nd, Teddy Bear Picnic Day on the 10th, Hammock Day on the 22nd, Cousins’ Day on the 24th and Father in Law day on the 30th.
