With Christmas and the New Year safely behind us, thoughts can turn to romance – particularly if we’ve just spent one too many celebration without a significant other to share it with. There are plenty of online dating sites offering discounts for seniors this January, including Dating Direct, which is offering prospective members the chance to take advantage of a free trial with its free “Sneaky Peek”. Friends Reunited Dating is also offering date discounts: it’s free to join up and search, so you can get a head start on 2013’s social whirl for nothing!

January has a reputation for feeling a little deflated after all the festive partying, too: and of course it’s the month where wallets are lightest. To help you inject some fizz into the Monday of months, without having to inject a cash transfusion into your bank account, there are plenty of new online senior discounts for meals and restaurants.

All Bar One is promoting the food side of its business this month by offering a pair of “sinful” and “soulful” discounts to all its customers throughout January. Simply sign up to receive the monthly newsletter and in return the wine bar and restaurant chain will send you a voucher allowing you to dine (choosing a meal from either the sinful or soulful menus) for £5.

Steak lovers get a January boost too, courtesy of Miller and Carter, whose London; Liverpool; Lancashire; and West Midlands steakhouses are offering a £5 discount from the price of a meal for two. Sign up for the newsletter and the discount code is yours.

Car hire company Avis is full of New Year cheer this week too. Ski lovers everywhere are advised that the rental company, in addition to a number of UK deals (£15 car hire, with the vehicle delivered to the door and collected from the renter’s home address at the end of the rental period), is knocking 20% off the cost of its USA and Canadian rentals. The discount is available when customers quote the code displayed on the Avis discounts page during booking; or when they use the Avis booking tool, in which case the discount will be automatically applied.

The beginning of the New Year, when the depths of winter really start to feel never ending, is always a good time for a holiday. And with travel companies vying for business at the end of a slack period, you’ll find plenty wherever you look. Be sure to check out a number of competing travel agencies before you make your booking. Thomas Cook has a 10% discount running on all holidays, plus a number of larger percentage discounts on winter sun destinations – some with as much as 50% knocked off the original price tag.

Virgin Holidays is also knocking 10% off all current bookings. Plus, if you sign up for the newsletter you’ll get automatic access to all the latest offers and discounts.

Happy Trails!
