Ask Granny has had some fun looking at a few special days in  April.  Everyone knows that April 1st is April Fool’s Day and that Easter comes sometime during the month. It is the month when spring comes into full bloom and we begin to think of outdoor activities. Here are some of the most important and/or the most interesting dates to observe in April 2012:

April 1  April Fool’s Day, play a trick on someone you love.

April 1 is also Palm Sunday this year. It is the commemoration of Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. He came riding on a donkey and the people honored him as king.

April 6th is Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified.

April 6-14th is Passover, the holiday honoring the saving of the Jewish people from death when they were captive in Egypt.

April 7th is caramel popcorn day. Have some.

April 8th is Easter Sunday, the day celebrating Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

April 9th is the day Winston Churchill became an honorary U.S. Citizen.

April 16th was the birthday of Charlie Chaplin, the British comedian famous for his work in silent films.

April 20th, 1889 was the birthday of Adolph Hitler, the man who championed discrimination based on ethnicity.

April 26th was William Shakespeare’s baptism day. He was born in 1564 and died in 1616.

April 27th is Babe Ruth Day, the last day he appeared in Yankee Stadium.

April 30th is the Scandinavian holiday known as Walpurgis. It celebrates spring and is marked with singing and evening bonfires.
