The New England states are famous for winters with lots of beautiful, powdery snow and often, clear blue skies. If you are outdoorsy folks, you and your grandkids have probably had many ski and snowboard adventures in the past.

But why not try some new winter adventures such as snowshoeing, dog sledding Snow Tubing or sleigh rides? There is even the opportunity for more thrilling snow experiences such as a snow safari in an all terrain vehicle.

Snow Tubing

Zooming down the hillsides on fat inner tubes is great fun for kids. There are many ski areas offering this special child-friendly fun. Here are several.

Butternut Basin Ski Area in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. Well-organized tubing programs with quality equipment, the grandkids will be in heaven.

King Pine Resort in Purity Springs New Hampshire. Enjoy the ease of a lift to take the grandkids back up the tubing hills. Tons of fun.

Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Maine offers night tubing for kids under twelve.

Sleigh Rides

What could be more fun than a sleigh ride on a chilly winter evening? Enjoy beautiful snowscapes as you travel in comfort.

The Farm by the River in North Conway, New Hampshire has won awards for their fantastic carriage and sleigh rides. Cover up with provided blankets and enjoy some sparkling cider as you enjoy the fantastic view.

Snowshoe Trails

Snowshoeing is a fun family activity. You can strap on the snowshoes and hike any snowy trail with a minimum of practice. Get the grandkids out and enjoy the snowy beauty.

Craftsbury Nordic Center in Vermont is a good jumping off point for snowshoe adventures.

Canterbury Farms in western Massachusetts grooms snowshoeing trails for your outdoor pleasure.

New Hampshire’s Mt. Washington Valley has 65 km of snowshoe trails groomed especially for you and your family.

Dog Sledding

Enjoy the unique experience of whisking over snowy trails on a sled pulled by highly-trained teams of dogs.

At the Eden Dog Sledding Center near Stowe Vermont you’ll find International Dogsled champion, Jim Blair and his “Unchained Gang” of dogs. This experience is both thrilling and educational.

Umiak Outfitter’s in Waterbury, Vermont offers dogsled tours using teams of Siberian Huskies.

Extreme Adventures

Every once in a while you need to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. This is it. Take a snow safari with Alpine Adventures in the White Mountains near Lincoln, New Hampshire. You’ll ride in a Pinzgauer all-terrain vehicle and scale Barron Mountain. Enjoy the view from the top.
