As the weather warms and more of us are venturing out into the great outdoors, some of you may pull out your bicycle and hit the trails and bike paths in your neighborhood. You will, of course, wear a proper helmet. But there are some other pieces of equipment which will add to your biking safety and your safe enjoyment of the sport. Wearing reflective clothing is a smart move, especially when the day is cloudy. Also seniors may wish to invest in wider tires and flat handlebars to maximize balance and decrease stress while riding. Biking with a partner or a group is a way to enjoy both the social setting and added safety, but if you do ride alone be sure to carry a cell phone in case of emergency. Ride your bike in familiar and well-lit places if you ride at night. Biking is a great senior activity so get your equipment in shape and enjoy the ride.
