1kg potatoes

A medium size mozzarella cheese

2-3 slices of cooked ham

1 egg

A pat of butter

A small glass of milk

2-3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese

A small cup of breadcrumbs

A dash of salt and freshly ground black pepper


Boil the potatoes in a large saucepan adding a little salt . If the potatoes are too large cut them in half. This is one time when Zia Mirella prefers to cook the potatoes until soft .

Mash the potatoes

Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the potatoes and a little milk and mix well.

When the potato mix has cooled, add in the beaten egg and the mozzarella that you have previously cut into small pieces.

Cut the ham into strips and add to the potato mix, then the Parmesan cheese.

Mix well and place in a nice oven dish that you can use to serve at the table

Heat up your oven to 200°.

Sprinkle the top with breadcrumbs and bake until the top forms a golden brown crust.

This should take approximately 25-30 minutes.

Serve as a side dish with your main course.
